Building a Balanced Healthy Diet Made Easy

Let Your Nutrition Coach Help – RISK-FREE TRIAL!

Every single day, thousands of people are scouring the web for quick weight loss tips. Do they find them? Absolutely! Is this necessarily a good thing? Not really! Unfortunately, we live in a world that desire the quick fix or instant gratification for almost any endeavor. This is not a positive way to approach a healthy eating plan however.

For this reason, we decided to start this week off with some simple, yet sound healthy weight loss diet tips. These same tips can be used by those trying to manage their weight as well. Maybe you don’t need to drop another 5-20 pounds but would just like to maintain your current weight with some easy to follow tips. No problem. These fit that bill too. Read on…

Eat Your Breakfast

So many of us miss this boat and than get so frustrated when our weight continues to ballon upwards. With the science behind our nutrition and the number of options out there for that first meal of the day, there are no excuses anymore. Eating a good solid breakfast to start your day helps supply you with the fuel you need to get started, especially if you are incorporating an early morning fitness program in to your day. You need the fuel to get your engine going in the morning. Do not starve your body early; because you may have the tendency to binge-eat later. Your body gets into the craving mode. Feed your body early!

Eat Smaller, More Frequent Meals

Do not allow your blood sugar levels to drop, in between meals. By eating more often and eating the right types of foods that are on the low end of the glycemic index, you can keep your blood sugar levels more even throughout the day, and ensure that you are not getting those mid-afternoon yawns and also help keep the excess weight off. Remember that when you spike your blood sugar by eating simple sugars and refined carbohydrates, this will potentially cause your body to store fat!

Eat Slowly

If you read about the French Paradox, which discusses why the French eat a lot of fatty foods, but are a leaner society than that of the United States. They take their meals very seriously as you should too. You will get multiple benefits from this tip. Eating slow will help your body absorb the food at the right level allowing you to fill up much quicker as it will not provide a tendency for you to OVEREAT! The other awesome benefit is that you can spend more time with your family so that you can share the important things in life with each other, assuming you still like each other that is! Boy do we hope so!

Choose the Right Carbs

Eat complex carbohydrates instead of simple sugars for a leaner body. Your body is in constant need of carbohydrates to be converted into glucose and used as fuel. When your body has extra glucose it will be stored as fat for later use. Complex carbohydrates, such as whole grains, legumes, and vegetables, take longer to break down into glucose, and will therefore be less likely to be stored as fat than simple carbohydrates such as table sugar, or fruit sugar.

That Last Supper

Do not eat anything other than a protein type meal within two hours of going to bed. Typically, most of our caloric needs decrease as the day goes on and we get closer to bedtime. You do not want to consume a lot of calories right before you go to bed, because you will end of potentially storing those calories as FAT!

Your body sometimes give you a false sense of being hungry as you bedtime nears. Those 9pm cravings begin and many people end up hitting the refrigerator and over consuming right before bed time. Not good for managing your weight and body fat levels.

If you just can’t resist the munchies, then grab a protein laden snack such as cottage cheese, low fat cheese, or nuts. Unsalted Almonds skin-on (good for fiber) or a couple spoonfuls of no sugar added all natural peanut butter will do the trick. Eating a good quality protein/fat food will satisfy your craving and will keep you from binging on something with lots of bad carbohydrates or simple sugars, like ice cream, cake or cookies.

These healthy weight loss diet tips will get anyone started off on the right track towards proper weight management and longer, happier lives. Remember, you can always add AdvoCare diet products to assist in your weight management cause and make the process that much easier! You will not find more researched or effective nutrition and skincare products available! Contact us with questions before you buy ANYTHING, from ANYONE! You will always get an honest opinion!

Healthy Meal Planning for Fat Burning

Bet you didn’t expect to hear this. Yes! If you can get yourself to eat more often, you will be well on your way to burning more fat. Obviously, this comes with some rules. How many times have you or someone you know, gone on a “diet” only to begin by starving themselves? Doesn’t work. Nor do fad diets. The latest craze diet is a great gimmick, but guess what, we are getting fatter each and every day as a society. How can that be? Simple really……

Most diets and most people make a huge mistake and cut so many calories out of their meal plans that they put their bodies into what we call protection or starvation mode. Yes, your body has a natural defense mechanism that keeps you from starvation. You must EAT. Of course you must do so while following some healthy nutritional tips.

We have decided to provide you with some simple tips that can get you started. Choose 3-5 tips from the below list to start. Put a determined effort into following those tips that you choose and once you have put together seven straight days of concerted effort into those 3-5 tips, add 1-2 more. Repeat the process. Learn as much as you can along the way about making good nutritional choices.

  • Determine your average caloric intake. This is not difficult at all.
  • Learn what your portion sizes should be. It’s not always necessary to count calories.
  • Create a reduction from your normal caloric intake by cutting out one thing at each meal.
  • Eat breakfast. Do not skip this meal. It starts your body’s furnace.
  • Eat more early and less later – Breakfast should be your largest meal of the day.
  • Eat 5-6 small meals daily.
  • Eat every 2-3 hours.
  • Do not eat within 2 hours before bedtime.
  • Do not eat carbohydrates alone.
  • Balance is the key – Not too much protein, fat or carbohydrates.
  • Eat high quality lean proteins at every meal- fish, lean Poultry and very lean red meats.
  • Eat high quality carbohydrates – 100% Whole Grains, high in fiber.
  • Drink plenty of Water – Green Tea and Low or No calorie fluids.
  • Keep Sugar to a minimum – Use Splenda or Stevia as a sugar alternative.
  • Keep sodium in check – Do not add extra salt to your meals. Eat foods from the most natural state possible – Processed foods tend to have lots of preservatives, sugar, salt, fat, and those things that make you gain weight.

Take steps! Get started now and be patient! Good luck!

Until next time…….. stick with your fitness program and healthy meal planning!

Another Online Fitness Tool

Anyone working towards increasing their health and wellness should always be on the look-out for new resources and tools that will aid them in reaching their goals. In our search for such tools to work with our fitness training programs and nutrition coaching, we were lucky enough to come across the BeFit toolbar, created by Jerry Higdon! This amazing feature is a great asset to your web browser, putting fitness and nutrition related tools at your fingertips at all times. Easy to install and use! Try it out today and tell us what you think! We love being a part of the BeFit toolbar and can’t thank Jerry enough. Now let’s hear from the man himself!

Jason – Good afternoon Jerry! Thanks so much for joining us today!

Jerry – Thank you for inviting me.

Jason – Before we jump into the BeFit toolbar, tell our readers a little about yourself!

Jerry -Well, I’m a former Personal Trainer (NASM & ACE) and found myself utilizing the computer more and more to educate and manage my clients.  Eventually I did what I think a lot of do and started a little website.  A cost free website!  My first attempt was MySpace (shudder), then I moved on to another ‘Free’ service and entered the Template phase.  Me being me, I took it upon myself to learn not only the basics but script writing, SQL, then PhP, as well as design and graphics.  It was a long process and more day and nights than I care to remember in front of a computer.  Thank God for the gym!

Jason – I know exactly what you mean. I now have a whole new appreciation for techies…….. I know you are involved in website design and such, but how did the whole BeFit Toolbar come to fruition?

Jerry -Most of my clients had been Personal Trainers and Coaches so I found myself creating and recreating the same tools and applications.  Eventually I thought to myself there’s got to be a better, easier way that might be less cost prohibitive. I wanted to be able to promote my client’s sites while also addressing some of the components that I think a Trainer should have included with their site but obviously can’t afford, like video instruction, goal tracking, dietary aids, etc.

Jason – Can you explain to our readers just what the toolbar is and the functions it provides?

Jerry – Well, the toolbar has come a long way!  First, like any addition to your browser, you have to have the search pane.  Naturally, I went with Google.  Then there is the BeFit Network which hosts the Websites and Fitness Portals that I believe contribute to the industry by providing news, access to a variety of content and views, unique services, and such.  Then there’s the Applications area which is constantly growing.  I not only wanted to provide easy access to Fitness Utilities, but common Internet tasks as well, like the Map and Directions Tool, an IP Address utility, email notification, etc.  Not to mention access to social sites like Twitter.

The BeFit Calculators comprise the next section… another long list of useful gadgets there!  Then there is the Shopping area– which I wasn’t planning on including at first.  After all, any search engine can lead you to one product or another.  It wasn’t until I was able to formulate a means of incorporating consistent savings that I moved forward with that aspect.  And not only as it applies to the Health and Fitness areas.  I’ve incorporated site specific searches through Buy.com and Overstock among others, with variable links like weekly sales, discounts, and coupons, and other incentives.  I, for one, appreciate the time it saves me finding what I need without having to click from one search result to another.

We also have the TV Feeds (that’s one of the most popular areas of the Toolbar actually) and the Internet Radio, Privacy Tools… I could go on you know!

Jason – I know, I know. Trust me, I haven’t been through every aspect of the toolbar yet and I’ve had it for a couple of weeks now. That’s the amazing part to me, the magnitude of it. Who was the toolbar built for? Can anyone use it?

Jerry – The Toolbar is made for the Fit conscious, but I really put a lot of effort into making it a universal device that can take the place of other browser tools and free up some window real estate.  Anyone can use it and I designed the installation and downloading process to be a breeze!

Jason – How long has the toolbar been out and where can our readers get it?

Jerry – It’s been out now for about a month and can be downloaded and installed at BeFit

Jason – Is the toolbar continuously updated feature?

Jerry -Yes!  The toolbar refreshes and updates automatically as new tools are brought in and new sites are promoted.

Jason – Great! Do you have plans for some things still to come? Anything really exciting you’ve got in the works to add?

Jerry – Right now I’m working on a new Toolbar component that will allow the BeFit Toolbar to be grouped with other Toolbars and accessed through a simple click-and-go design.  Imagine the Swiss Army Knife.  BeFit and Health is the theme, with a Social Network Toolbar just a click away, or a toolbar dedicated to Twitter or Facebook.  Another click and your Media Toolbar pops into play and you’re syncing your IPod while organizing your Netflix Playlist.

Jason – Wow! What about non-BeFit toolbar projects? Anything we should know about in the works?

Jerry – I was thinking of inventing some sort of device that I can hook up to my monitor that would tan my face.  But I’m not holding my breath on that.  I’ll have to stick with the creams for the time being I guess.

Jason – Now that’s pretty funny. Imagine the response that device would bring……women everywhere would love you! Well, you know I have the BeFit toolbar on my PCs so I will be following your every move and enjoying the benefits the toolbar offers. Hopefully, our readers will check it soon and see just how helpful it is to have these tools at your fingertips all the time.

Jerry -  Let’s hope so!  My suggestion box is only a click away… so any ideas… for the BeFit Toolbar… and not my hopelessly pale complexion… are welcomed!

Jason – Jerry thanks so much for taking some time out of your schedule to talk to us today. I am really impressed by the toolbar and what you have created. Do me a favor; keep me up to date on things so I can keep our readers enlightened!

Jerry – No problem… and remember the BeFit Logo has a drop down feature as well that allows you to customize your toolbar… It’s also where the Tell A Friend feature is located so spread the word… BeFit!

Jason – Make note of that readers…both Jerry and I would appreciate that sharing! Send us your feedback after you try out the toolbar, we’d both love the input!

Anyone hooked on this show? How about those dancers? Those bodies? Amazing huh!

One reason many people don’t stick with exercise is that it’s often not that interesting. But what if you could dance your way to improved health? Two new studies suggest that you just might be able to do that.

Presented recently at the American College of Sports Medicine meeting in Seattle, one study found that salsa dancing could improve cardiovascular fitness, and the other found that less vigorous ballroom dances such as the fox trot or tango — although not as much of a workout as salsa — can add 2,000 steps or so to a person’s daily walking total.

Healthy Meal Planning at it’s Best

You have to read this! Talk about funny…. and Donna’s right, we do some crazy things!

We have a giggle around the office every time we see an ad promising significant (read: ridiculous) weight loss. And there are lots of those promises to go around… Lose 10lbs in 4 days! Drop 30lbs in 12 days! I often wonder why there are so many of these ads, and why people are so easily persuaded that such dramatic weight loss is 1) possible, 2) safe and 3) sustainable.

Healthy Diet Tips

Trust me when I tell you……you’re gonna LOVE them!
I came across this recipe a few weeks back and decided to give it a try. WOW! They are truly amazing brownies and loaded with as much or as little protein as you want. They are a great treat, even if you are watching what you eat. Give’em a try!

If I’m wrong…..POST IT!

Brownie Decadence
Recipe adapted from “My New Brownie” in Judy Rosenburg’s Rosie’sChocolate-Packed Jam-Filled Butter-Rich No-Holds-Barred Cookie Book (Workman, 1996)
Makes 16 Brownies
1/2 cup flour
3/4 cup cocoa
1/2 cup vanilla protein powder
2 oz. unsweetened chocolate
2 sticks reduced-fat butter
1 3/4 cups sugar (we replaced the sugar with 1 cup baking Splenda)
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 eggs
4 egg whites
2 tbsp. mini semi-sweet chocolate chips
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line 8×8-inch square baking pan with parchment paper (or coat it with nonstick cooking spray). In a small bowl, thoroughly combine flour, cocoa and protein powder. Set aside. Melt chocolate and butter together either in microwave or double boiler. Stir until blended, then set aside at least five minutes to coo.. In a large bowl, mix the cooled chocolate/butter with the sugar/Splenda, using an electric mixer on medium speed. Add vanilla: mix. Add two eggs, mix on low speed, add all egg whites, then mix until batter is smooth. Add protein/flour/cocoa mixture and stir by hand just until all dry ingredients are incorporated into wet ingredients and no flour is visible. Pour batter into the pan and sprinkle evenly with chocolate chips. Cook 40-45 minutes, until center is firm and level with sides. Brownies are done when a toothpick inserted in center comes out with moist crumbs.
Per brownie: 221 calories, 5g protein, 29g carbohydrate, 11g fat
Note: These number change if you use Splenda instead of sugar and use more or less protein powder.

Until next time…….. stick with your fitness training program and weekly meal planning!

A Healthy Diet Plan Really Works

Today we have a special treat! Miami’s very own Stefan Pinto, Actor, Model and Fitness Writer! Why is he here? Simple, Stefan is a real-life story of how living healthier changed his life. One day, one thought, walking into one store changed it all for him. Read on and see how his story could very well be yours….if you make the DECISION!

Jason – Hey Stefan! Great to have you here man! You know I’ve been following your writing for a while now and the chance to do an interview with you for our readers is truly a pleasure. Thanks so much for taking some time to talk with us today.

Stefan – Thanks Jason. That means a lot. Thank you for having me.

Jason – Well, needless to say, I know a bit about your history, but our readers might not, so would you mind telling your personal story!

Stefan – It changes, not the story but the evolving part. A great leap was quitting AT&T in 2000. After two years of converting an Excel spreadsheet into an Access database, only to have them request it as an Excel spreadsheet once more was enough to send me packing. I worked on my own for nine years (starting in New Jersey) as a web design consultant. It was by coincidence that I happened to buy lunch at a local Whole Foods (in Miami) that I was approached by a talent agent.

Jason – I’ve noticed a great deal of fitness writing focuses on motivation. How and why is that?

Stefan – Catharsis. Complacency breeds stagnation and often, there can be so much “noise” surrounding change, especially in our own lives. When I write, it comes from experience and most of my own hurdles and battles. We all experience the same emotions and hopefully my writing can help people to know that everyone at one time or another needs to be vigilant when it comes to motivation.

Jason – Obviously, you are an individual whose life has been affected tremendously by the fitness lifestyle. How about all of your acting and modeling? You’re still doing that right?

Stefan – I am and I enjoy it immensely. I feel that acting allows the opportunity to become someone else without having to excuse oneself. A photographer told me once, “as long as it is on stage, then it is fine. Otherwise, you’re just lying.” I try to act only when I’m onstage, but I do have fun.

Jason – How long have you been writing now? What are some of the publications you are currently writing for? Where can our readers find you?

Stefan – My stefanpinto.com/hello blog started while I was serving jury duty. I had nothing to do and the idea to write the “Whole Foods Changed My Life” article simply came to me. I later submitted it to some online publications one of which I write for now. I also write for TalentZoo on business and consulting topics; the fitness section for a public relations firm in New York and occasionally for dietsinreview.com. I want some more writing assignments perhaps with a conventional printed publication, although I don’t know how long they will be around. If anyone needs a writer!

Jason – Do you get much interaction from your readers?

Stefan – Yes, via email mostly. It’s quite uplifting to hear some of the challenges people face and how by my divulging my own hurdles and challenges, it has given them motivation. I also get a lot of messages on Twitter, which I admit is addictive.

Jason -What do you find people have the hardest time with from the motivational side of things? And why?

Stefan – Fear of failure, frankly. I think it is an innate human protection device. I read a lot of Deepak Chopra. He suggests that there are only two emotions, pleasure and pain. We spend a great deal of our lives seeking pleasure and avoiding pain. But if we were to look at life as a balance, we would ultimately realize that we must accept pain — and for many, failure is painful to the ego. Our egos often get in the ways of our pursuits. Sometimes I wish nothing would bother me, I feel I would get so much more accomplished.

Jason – You’re really big into the whole Social Media thing! I’m trying to follow in your footsteps with that, but do you find it to be a real benefit? Are you finding a connection with your readers through those avenues?

Stefan – I am? Wow, I didn’t think that I was. There are so many people on Twitter that I admire. Their tactics and networking strategies are always fascinating to me. Honestly, I copy them… I give credit of course, ha, ha! You know, I read somewhere, that if you really admire someone, just do what they do and you will get what they got. Maybe, I’m not so sure. Being polite helps!

Jason – Now, on a personal level, what about your current training and diet? Are you simply in a maintenance phase? How do you stay “ready” all the time for your shoots, etc?

Stefan -I suppose you can call it a maintenance phase, yes. Cardio is essential to maintenance. I run three miles every-single-day. Even when I am tired, especially when I am tired. I just do it, you know? Best to do it in less than 20 minutes. I sweat a lot when I work out (maybe it’s the hemp protein?) and I think this helps clear my mind with all of the circulation. Diet is also quite crucial. I mean, I understand we all have social lives and fancy parties to go to, but try not to just eat anything. Give yourself a “self control” challenge. Every time you don’t give in, reward yourself on your cheat day. But you will have to make sure and run an additional half a mile the next day.

Jason – So, what’s next? Anything really new and exciting coming up in the near future for you?

Stefan – Ha ha. Well, I have a practice of not sharing those things until I know for sure that they will happen, that is, when I see the check… no wait, when the check clears.

Jason – You know we’re going to be following along the whole way! Man, I really appreciate you joining us. You bring a real-life experience and success to the table most people don’t believe takes place.

Stefan – Thanks Jason, you’re kind. I just believe that we become what we think about. Think good things, and good things happen. Nike is right with their “just do it” slogan. Half the time, if we were to simply “just do it” so much more will get accomplished. Follow your heart.

Jason – Make sure you keep me posted when things come up so I can let our readers know! Thanks again for taking the time with us today! Really neat to have you here with us! You are certainly welcome back any time you want……..

Stefan – Certainly! Thank you for the opportunity. Enjoy the sunshine. Wear sunblock!

Jason – Always! Talk to you soon!
